women artists event - recap

Our first women artists event was this past weekend and it was a big success! We had a great turn out and I had a fantastic day hanging out with these talented ladies. Thank you Frances, Llubav and Sarah! Here are some photos from the day:

Frances’ beautiful Pearl Collection on our table.

Sarah+Llubav. Hot mamas!

Llubav’s felt lovlieness in our window. Sarah’s gorgeous cake & new cookbook (due out in June) are in the background.

Sarah’s divine golden chocolate/espresso cupcakes and earl grey tea cookies. They look perfect on Frances’ plates.

Frances’ pieces can display ring pillows too! Llubav designed the one with the large flower just for us. Call the shop to order.

One of our brides, Libby, admiring some of the Frances Palmer pieces she registered for!

One more shot of the table. You can glimpse one of Frances’ amazing handmade vases.

We will be hosting more events this spring/summer. Look for a book signing in June!

women artists - part 3

We are hosting our first ever women artists event on April 4, from 1-4pm. If you are in the neighborhood, stop on by! Frances Palmer (http://www.abitareshop.com/2008/11/07/women-artists-frances-palmer/), Llubav Choy Duerr and my lovely friend Sarah Magid will all be here in the shop sharing their talents with us! Sarah worked for years in fashion (for companies such as J.Crew, Coach, Liz Claiborne, Frye and Henri Bendel) and now she applies her creativity and amazing fashion sense to organic baked goods. And she has a cookbook coming out in June! Here is a sneak peek at the cover:

Sarah made our wedding ‘cake’ last summer which was actually 100 plus organic chocolate twinkies covered in gold frosting, she calls them ‘goldees’. Love!

And her cake creations are always so beautiful, creative and delicious.

women artists - part 2

We recently started carrying Llubav Choy Duerr’s work in the shop and I couldn’t be more excited. As Joanne blogged a couple of weeks ago, Llubav made some adorable sachets out of felt with her signature handmade flowers just for us! They look & smell amazing.

We also have a selection of Llubav’s handmade felt flower pins. I got this black mum which Llubav described as ‘Chanel-esque’. I absolutely love it!

Llubav started out life in Peru, has lived in Mexico and Virginia and now resides here in Brooklyn. She studied at FIT and worked at Hable Construction for seven years. Now she is concentrating on her own handmade creations which include our sachets, the gorgeous flower pins, hair pins, stationery and wedding ring pillows (among other things). Here are some images of her beautiful custom ring pillows.

And check out the flag garlands and ADORABLE felt ornaments. I can’t wait to get these in at Christmas!

You can check out more about Llubav by visiting her new website: www.llubav.com. And she will be at our shop on April 4th for our first ever women artists event. Stop by for a drink! 1-4pm.

an abitare wedding, part 2

Hand + Cole wedding plans are really moving along. I’m now fully into picking linens, glasses, and flowers. One little touch I’ve decided on for the tables…we just got these handmade stone place card holders in the store. I love the whimsical, organic look. I am going to use them for the place cards and then give them away to each guest. They can also be used as a photo holder!
